Here at Surf Your Name, one of our favorite things to do is working with clients that create good in the world. Whether it’s My Museum, a non-profit Children’s museum, or Aronse-Amade, who gives a portion of proceeds to the prevention and deterrence of sexual trafficking of young teenage and young adult girls. That’s why we were excited to get to work with ALD Connect, a non-profit organization dedicated to a rare disease called Adrenoleukodystrophy.
ALD Connect works with patients and their families to educate, fundraise, and try to make lives better for people suffering from this disease. They work hard to foster a sense of community, and we wanted to help them make this easier.
ALD Connect’s old website wasn’t very easy to use, and information was sometimes hard to find. So they contacted Surf Your Name for a custom WordPress website. Our first goal was to lay out all of their important info in a format that made sense, and was easy to navigate. This makes it easy for patients and their families to get the info they need quickly. We created a beautiful custom design that flows nicely and has customized elements throughout to give it some warmth and personality. The new WordPress website has multiple custom contact forms to collect information from their users, and a custom donation page for them to collect for the cause as well.
The Newborn Screening page has one of our favorite features- a fully functional SVG map. What this means is that essentially each state is a small individual vector image, aligned perfectly into the shape of the United States. It’s easily editable through a text file, no custom software necessary! Each state that features these screening services is highlighted and clickable, bringing the user to a page with resources for the state selected. It looks great and is the type of custom feature we love making here at Surf Your Name.
One of the biggest facets of this project was the custom directory we built. It’s a fully moderated system where individuals and families can add their names to a page where others can connect with them easily. When registering, the user must select from a number of categories to include themselves in, as well as enter their City and State. All of the listings are private and are moderated, and new user registration is also moderated and requires the user to submit some information about themselves to the directory admins, making this system very secure.
