All of our clients know we have dedicated website hosting for clients at Surf Your Name. We do not take part in shared hosting servers where your site is hosted with thousands of other websites that can affect site speed and performance.
In the past 3 years, we have had 22 minor server updates where no downtime occurred and overall server performance has been increased. In that same time period, we have had 2 MAJOR server updates where we have migrated to upgraded servers with only minutes of downtime. We are excited to announce that we are about to have our next major website hosting server upgrade.
We have purchased a new server and it is being customized and tailored to our needs as I type this blog post. It has over 3 times the disk space, RAM, and bandwidth. Our current server is fast, but this is going to be even better. I have always been a gadget geek, so upgrading to the best, fastest, and latest technology is always on my mind!
We have scheduled the transfer to the new server to begin at 7 pm EST on Friday, February 18th. Each website will be transferred individually to the new server and should see little to no downtime. The transfer will be mostly in the overnight hours when website traffic is low to your website. Any emails that are sent during the transfer will not be lost and will show up in your account once the transfer has completed.
Our goal is to have the server migration completed before Monday morning. However, from past experience, most, if not all, sites will be transferred and running on the new server in less than 24 hours from the start of the migration.
